Tourism in Antequera

Antequera is synonymous with historical and cultural richness. With its origins dating back to the Bronze Age, it offers visitors unparalleled architectural features that include dolmens, arches, gates, churches, convents, shrines, chapels, palaces and stately homes.

Conjunto Arqueológico Dólmenes de Antequera, which is formed by the dolmens of Menga, Viera and El Romeral, is a model of megalithic construction. Dating back an estimated 6500 years, this is the best preserved dolmen group in Europe and a prehistoric monument that is well worth a visit. This site is also the only Spanish candidate being considered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016.

El Torcal is essential for fans of nature and hiking. It is a natural labyrinth of 1,171 hectares of limestone and forms that create an incredible karst landscape. The mountain range is a Special Region for the Protection of Birds.

Gastronomy has a special role in the region's culture. "Porra antequerana," a gazpacho family soup, is a standout dish, as are muffins and other traditional sweets.
